How To Spot A Scammer And Protect Yourself

Kuala Lumpur: It started with a promise. Martin, not his real name, from Ulu Yam was told that he could have fun while making real money from a local casino website. As advertised on the website, he was hoping to bag the ‘biggest prize you can possibly imagine’.

At first, Martin made some small but exciting wins, and it didn’t take long before he made his second deposit to go for the big victory. However, things started to go wrong when he felt that he wasn’t making progress and decided to withdraw all his money a month later.

Suddenly, he received news from the casino that they were unable to process his withdrawal owing to a ‘system error’ and that there was nothing they could do about it. Customer service stopped responding and Martin could only stare at his 5-figure savings through the screen and cry foul.

In reality, this is what’s known as a ‘non-payment’ scam and Martin is just one of the thousands of unlucky victims. Players are promised a 100% withdrawal, yet their winnings are withheld for no apparent reason.
